JOB PURPOSE
  • Monitor and assess security measures at BIA are implemented and applied according to the Security standards required by ICAO, BCAA and the BAC Security Department. Maintain close communication and coordination regarding any issues that might reveal a weakness or vulnerable area of the security operations at BIA.

  • Perform Aviation Security monitoring tasks at the airport, implement access control and protection measures, perform incident reporting, and assisting with passenger flow management in order to facilitate the orderly and efficient processing of passengers.

  • Take the necessary and timely action in case of security accidents and incidents.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Aviation Security Responsibilities

  • Perform Security activities with the purpose of monitoring(inspecting) the level of compliance of the provisions established by the Airport Security Program.

  • Attend and actively participate in the daily aviation security meeting with other relevant stakeholders to plan and tackle the daily security issues.

  • Patrol Airport airside areas and ensure vulnerabilities are addressed and reported to Head of Security

  • Patrol and keep under observation Landside areas and report to Head of Security any concerns;

  • Ensure compliance with international Security standards, in particular with the provisions of the Airport Security Program related to passenger and baggage screening, passenger/baggage reconciliation, cargo and catering security, staff screening. etc. in coordination with MOI Police.

  • Test scheduled aviation security equipment including (but not limited to): conventional x-ray machines, EDS equipment, Liquid Explosive Detection Systems, Walk Through Metal Detectors, and Explosive Trace Detection equipment. Compile test reports and report any problematic equipment to relevant Department.

  • Perform checks at screening areas, and where necessary coordinate with the National Forces (MoI) to ensure that the necessary manpower and other resources are available to cope with passenger and staff security controls.

  • Assist in the handling of Aviation Security incidents as required, properly report and follow up actual/alleged breaches of Security measures in coordination with the Head of Security.

  • Monitor the issuance and use airport security passes and vehicle permits according to procedures.

  • Take decisions and act in a timely manner on matters requiring immediate security attention on a continuous daily basis.

  • Escort staff and transported items to/from a desired destination to ensure the integrity of the security restricted area.

  • Respond to Security alarms and dispatched calls, as necessary, then report, or brief relevant authorities and superiors.

  • Respond to and assist with emergency situations such as aircraft emergencies, terminal evacuations and other Security incidents.

  • Proactively recommend methods for improving the existing Security procedures, practices and possible alternative models or approaches that might enhance compliance with international regulations.

  • Ensure staff and passengers follow all Security procedures and Instructions.

  • Perform periodical monitoring activities in accordance with department procedures.

  • Assist as necessary in security related incidents at BAC HQ.

  • Monitor and communicate with Airport Concessionaries on a daily basis to ensure that any security issues are resolved.

  • Perform inspections at concessionaries to ensure the proper handling and protection of prohibited articles used in the SRA.

  • Ensure and maintain the integrity of BIA Airside / Landside Barrier by controlling all Perimeter Gates with the coordination of the MOI Airport Police in accordance with the department procedures.

  • Ensure and oversee the implementation of the defined security measures at all land side facilities.

  • Challenge persons other than passengers not wearing an airport security pass and forward the necessary reports to Head Airport Access Control.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director - Security.

  • Passenger Facilitation Responsibilities.

  • Provide good quality customer service while at the same time not compromising Aviation Security.

  • Resolve queries and problems from customers and assist them with their journey through their airport.

  • Assist at the screening points by facilitating and expediting the process of security screening of passenger/staff's transported items by controlling the movement of these items onto the “in-put” chamber of the x-ray machine conveyor belt, direct passengers/staff to the WTMD and control the throughput.

Education/Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or bachelor’s degree in business administration or similar preferred.

  • Knowledge of International Civil Aviation Organization Standards (ICAO), as well as other National and International aviation security standards and recommended practices.

Experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role in the aviation or security operations.
