MAIN OBJECTIVES

Manage the Database Administration operations and Oracle E-Business activities, implementing, maintain, configure, and administer core databases such as but not limited to, Oracle, MS-SQL and other supported database engines. Moreover, responsible to troubleshoot, monitor ensuring proper functionality of databases on all supported platforms based on Gulf Air IT roadmap for on-premises and cloud base databases infrastructure environment such as Oracle, Azure, and AWS.

Supervise and resolve Database issues related to operating system problems on supported platforms, build and maintain monitoring systems for various database servers, system and services. Create and maintain all related documentation, schematics and reports.

Monitor, review and analyze incidents metrics and recurring issues/requests. Proactively make recommendations for prevention and resolution to address and resolve identified problems

Assign team with sufficient knowledge and experience in operations for support and design. Oversee the development and implementation of compliance programme related to Databases, assigned projects, identify risks and liaise with Manager Information Security & Risk Management for conducting risk assessment and developing risk mitigation plan.

Manage and assign the work of individual teams to ensure that all requests, solutions, tasks and projects are achieved on time, as per users requirements and within approved budget .

Interact with management, users and vendors to determine system requirements and solutions. Review various databases reports and provides technical guidance to staff and establish directives for future systems by evaluating and planning for software and database upgrades. 

MAIN DUTIES

1. Supervise all GF business applications databases that use Relational Database Management.
2. Manage, assign, and check the work of individual teams to ensure that all solutions, tasks and projects are achieved on time and within budget.
3. Oversee daily activities of updating, enhancing, following-ups of projects based on business unit’s requirements.
4. Interact with management, users and vendors to determine system requirements and solutions.
5. Coach and provide technical leadership to others on infrastructure solutions designs, platform sizing, and the application of new technologies and project management methodologies.
6. Act as Project Manager for those initiatives handled by the team.
7. Review various reports and provides technical guidance to staff. Establish directives for future systems by evaluating and planning for software or database upgrades.
8. Manage the implementation of all IT database security compliance related to supported Databases.
9. Develop and implement any IT policy based on Gulf Air business requirements.
10. Conduct periodic health check, environmental assessments and developing mitigation plans.
11. Conduct internal monitoring and auditing of all system logs.
12. Create and ensures that all IT policies and procedures exist and maintained.
13. Handle all activities related to Gulf Air’s Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning solution, from databases operation activities perspective, once activated and when drill test plan is arranged.
14. Ensure all activities meet the requirements of company’s Manual of Authority, Company’s Policies, Procedures and Standards.
15. Handle and manage the staff performance’s appraisals by setting clear objectives with defined targets.
16. Develop employee’s career development plans. Establish and control training requirements for all personnel. Create measurable objectives for each resource and guide them through their career goals
17. Attend internal and external meetings as and when required.
18. Prepare and send a daily/weekly/monthly database operations activity reports to the management.
19. Handle all documentation creation and updates for sections maintained.
20. Manage the support, maintenance and monitoring of all supported Databases Infrastructure Enterprise level.
21. Perform database capacity management evaluations, reporting and planning.
22. Responsible for database respective operational standards and policies.
23. Manage and support resources on Gulf Air cloud environment whether it is on AWS, Azure, Oracle, or others.
24. Coach and develop the team to ensure delivery of a consistently superior user experience by highly knowledgeable and user-focused agents and to act as the communication conduit between Frontlines and Management.
25. Evaluate and recommend IT Database products to management. Offer solutions and suggestions for process and product improvement to management.
26. Function as Subject Matter Expert for Solution Advisory committee.
27. Monitor Databases including but not limited to Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL etc. to ensure continuity of services and report issues.
28. Deputize Manager IT Technical Service on his absences.
29. Resolve the root cause of the problems and avoiding the repetition of the same issues.
30. Manage, coordinate and administer all Change Controls activities to IT production environments and ensure they are tracked accordingly

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum 7 to 10 years of IT experience of which 3 years should be in a senior positions.
• Experience in administering databases systems like Oracle, Microsoft SQL.
• Experience in managing projects from planning to implementation.
• Experience in Backup, SAN storage, and virtualization technologies.
• Experience in Implementing ISO 27001 and ITIL programs.

Experience in developing IT policy and awareness program.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum BSc in Computer Science and Database administrator (DBA) or equivalent.

   

• IT certification – e.g. OCP, MCITP, MCSE, VCP, AWS or any other IT specific certification is an advantage.

   

• Knowledge of Oracle business applications such as e-Business.

   

• Knowledge of common IT software and Databases technologies.

   

• Highest proficiency in both written and oral English language. Arabic language is an added advantage.

   

• High level of negotiation, trouble shooting and communication skills required.

   

• Knowledge of Airline solutions or experience in any field in the Airline Industry will be beneficial, especially customer services.

 

Certification on ISO 27001 Auditing. ITIL (Information technology Infrastructure library) certifications are advantage.
