MAIN OBJECTIVES
To operate the aircraft in accordance with established professional and regulatory guidelines, responsible for the safe operation of the aircraft and the safety of its occupants during flight.
To manage the crewmembers from the time of reporting for service till the completion of duty tour.
MAIN DUTIES
1. Operate the aircraft in accordance with established professional and regulatory guidelines. Responsible for the safe operation of the aircraft and the safety of its occupants during flight.
2. Adhere to published take-off and arrival times, whilst considering flight safety and fuel conservation, to ensure that flights strictly adhere to commercial schedules.
3. Take any necessary action, e.g. avoid turbulence, to ensure passenger comfort.
4. Give all commands deems necessary for the purpose of ensuring the safety of the aircraft and of persons or property carried therein.
5. Ensure loading of the aircraft is in acceptance with regulatory requirements and safety standards are met.
6. Assume managerial responsibility for the crew from the time of reporting for service till the completion of duty tour in all matters with the exception of Cabin Service duties, to ensure that standards of dress, behaviour, safety and company regulations are complied with.
7. Brief and supervise the co-pilot, check all flight instruments and navigational aids to ensure their accuracy and establish monitoring procedures to ensure safe operation of the aircraft at all times.
8. Ensure that all passengers are briefed on the location of emergency exits and use of relevant safety and emergency equipment
9. Ensure pre-flight preparations are carried out and that information is obtained prior to and during the flight which will enable him to take-off fly/land safely, on schedule and with due consideration to passenger comfort.
10. Complete and file all necessary post-flight documents e.g. Accident/Incident, Voyage and Flight Operations reports etc. to ensure that all necessary regulatory and company requirements are fulfilled.
11. Whilst in command of the aircraft, assume unlimited authority over the passengers and crew in the event of an emergency to ensure the safety of life and property. Decide on disembarkation of any person, or any part of the cargo, which, in their opinion, may represent a potential hazard to the safety of the aircraft or its occupants. Decide on refusal of transportation of inadmissible passengers, deportees or persons in custody if their carriage poses any risks to the safety of the aircraft or its occupants.
12. Ensure that he is adequately rested for the proposed duty and is not under the influence of drugs and alcohol. It is advisable that the crewmember has not been diving within 24 hours and has not donated blood within 72 hours prior to flight.
13. Ensure that all operational procedures, limitations and check lists are complied with in accordance with the Operations Manual
14. Decide whether or not to accept an aircraft with un-serviceability allowed by the CDL or MEL
15. Ensure that the pre-flight safety and security inspections have been carried out
16. In an emergency situation that requires immediate decision and action, take any action he considers necessary under the circumstances. In such cases he may deviate from rules, operational procedures and methods in the interest of safety
17. Submit an Air Safety Report (ASR) and/or Commanders Voyage Report (CVR) in order to report incidents or unusual items to the Flight Operations Management/ Flight Safety Department
18. Any other duty, as required by the operations management.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
Current valid ATP license.
Valid class 1 Medical check
DGCA examination requirements.
