JOB PURPOSE

he role shall support in executing policies that ensure the safety of the employees, stakeholders and users of BIA and related facilities.

The position will conduct inspections, audit and provide insight on various work environments and activities under the direction of the Head - Health and Safety.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Develop, implement, and maintain:

•The GFG Corporate Health & Safety global strategies and policies in order to ensure the protection of GFG interests, the compliance with the accepted International standards and local regulations, and that the Health & Safety standards are met and followed company-wide.

•Develop, implement, and maintain the overall Health & Safety processes, standards, guidelines, and procedures which extend to all service providers and/or users of the Airport.

•Review and update Health & Safety systems and control processes, (e.g. contractor guidelines, work permits, codes of practice for other types of industrial activities within the airport) to align with legislation, industry best practice and contractual arrangements, and to ensure they are proportionate and effective.

•Establish and maintain effective liaison with other airport departments and relevant local safety representatives.

Assist in the effective establishment of the BIA Safety Management System, in accordance with ISO, and other international and national standards.

Enhance Health & Safety Culture:

Manage the activities of the Health & Safety Section by providing direction, monitoring performance, motivating staff, ensuring the development of all employees, and creating a culture and climate conducive to achievement of the Department’s mission and overall organizational goals.

Organize health and safety campaign to enhance awareness amongst all airport internal and external stakeholders (incl. suppliers and contractors).

Design and manage an on-going Health & Safety risk assessment strategy to accurately identify safety business priorities and risks, determine the required priorities for safe airport operations, and provide maximum safety support to BIA operations.

Point of contact for all Environmental matters:

•Provide across the organization specialist advice related to Health & Safety, to support strategic planning, development, procurement, operations, and by reviewing and approving safety project provisions, technology and equipment.

Provide specialist advice on the potential impact of any new legislation or regulations relating to Health & Safety.

Ensure that all projects can meet all current and perceived Health & Safety regulatory standards.

Induction:

•Ensure induction conducted for all contractors working in the terminal.

•Ensure Health & Safety inductions and awareness performed for all staff.

Managing First Aid Kit Distribution, Awareness and Training for GFG Staff

Carry out regular Health and Safety audits, surveys, analysis of all accidents within the Airport, identify unsafe acts and conditions, noncompliance with the standards and advise GFG management accordingly

Ensure that approved safety equipment is provided and/or installed within GFG or other Airport buildings

Provide accident related/illness statistics report to the Management and recommend improvements.

Assist Manager - Health, Safety, & Environment to recognize, evaluate and control the high-risk areas and substances hazardous to health within the airport

Assist Manager - Health, Safety, & Environment with the development and implementation of risk assessments programs aimed at minimizing/reducing the occurrence and consequences of industrial accidents

Maintain record of occupational accident and injury received to all airport staff, analyse and recommend remedy and improvements

Participate in all emergency/disaster recovery planning, meetings and exercises

Managing Stock & Distribution of Personal Protective Equipment.

Health & Safety awards submission & certifications to promote Health & Safety externally.

•Control of contractors in terms of Health & Safety to ensure compliance throughout of the organization. Actively supporting consultants and contractors working on the airport site (particularly in the manoeuvring area) to ensure compliance regulations.

•Control of Hazards related to the work environment in terms of Chemical, Physical, Mechanical, and other related Hazards.

•Control of Hazardous Substances through procedures and risk assessments and awareness in GFG.

•Participate in the investigation of Health and Safety non-conformances, near misses and accidents to establish root cause and lessons learned.

Support the organization during times of emergency of operations.

Carry out any other activities requested by the Manager - Health, Safety & Environment.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Education / Qualifications

•University degree in Aviation Management, Science, Engineering, or equivalent qualification.

•NEBOSH Diploma, or ACI Safety Management Diploma, or equivalent.

•NEBOSH H&S Leadership Certifications

•Certified in ISO 9001 Quality Management, ISO 14001 Environmental Management and ISO45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management

•Training related to Environmental Aspects:

oProcess Safety

oFire Safety

oCOSHH

oHazards to the Environment

oMechanical Hazards etc.

Experience

•A minimum of 0-2 years of work experience in health and safety preferability in an airport environment.

•Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and supervising the implementation of Health & Safety and operational processes and procedures, and in successfully and effectively managing a team.

•Experience of promoting a positive safety culture in a multi-stakeholder environment.

•Experience/trained in behavioural safety techniques.

•Experience of large-scale construction programs within a live operational environment

Job Specific Skills:

•Strong technical knowledge in developing and managing health and safety procedures; Health & Safety Management systems; Health & Safety Regulations; Accident and incident investigations.

•Knowledge and experience of Safe Systems of Work, including Permit to Work and Lock Out/Tag Out, Risk Assessments and Job Safety Analysis, incident investigation, Root Cause Analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.

•Good planning and organizational skills including the production of reports, conducting safety risk assessments, and preparing recommendations for preventive and corrective action plans. Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritizes, and work to strict deadlines.
